Apple TV 4K models decode HEVC in dedicated silicon and output 4K with high dynamic range, so a 4K HEVC feed at 15-25 Mbps plays without the software fallback that troubles cheaper boxes. HEVC uses roughly half the bitrate of H.264 at comparable quality, so the streams the box handles most easily are also the lightest on your line. The device also has gigabit-class networking on the wired models, which removes the Wi-Fi variable entirely. If playback stutters here, the odds strongly favor the line or the source rather than the decoder.

Without frame rate matching, a 50 fps feed gets converted to the fixed output rate and produces regular judder that people misread as buffering. Neither problem is the app's doing and neither is fixed inside the app. Audio is the third to check: if a channel plays video with no sound, force stereo output temporarily, since a multi-channel format the amplifier does not accept produces silence rather than an error.

Post-update regression is a documented and recurring pattern across platforms, and on tvOS it stings more because you cannot roll back.
