Apple locks tvOS to its own App Store. There is no developer mode toggle and no equivalent of loading an app from a link, which is the normal path on Firestick or Android TV. The hardware handles 4K HDR without trouble; every Apple TV 4K model decodes HEVC, the compression format that cuts the data a 4K picture needs by about half compared to older H.264 streams. The limit is almost always your connection, not the box. A 4K stream needs roughly 15-25 Mbps of steady throughput and uses about 7 GB an hour, so check your plan's actual upload and download speed before assuming the picture will hold at that setting. Wired ethernet into the Apple TV 4K removes the weakest link in the chain, since Wi-Fi congestion is the most common reason a 4K stream drops to a lower picture mid-show, especially in a house with several devices competing for the same router.

Open the App Store on the Apple TV 4K home screen, search for the player app, and install it, the same as any tvOS app. On first launch it asks for a server address, a username, and a password, or a single playlist link, depending on the service. Type those in with the remote's on-screen keyboard, and the app pulls in your channel list and program guide within a couple of minutes.
