It's a permission switch, not a security bypass, and it only affects where the device is allowed to install apps from, nothing else about how the device behaves or what data it shares.

Both do the same job: telling the player app where your channel list lives so it can pull the right data. An M3U playlist is a single link the app reads directly to build the list. Xtream Codes is a username, password, and server address that the app uses to pull the same information along with an on-screen program guide. Neither format is more secure or less secure than the other; which one you use depends entirely on what your specific subscription provides, not on anything you get to choose yourself.

A playlist URL or Xtream Codes address is case-sensitive and exact, down to individual slashes and port numbers. One misplaced character and the app either shows an empty channel list or fails to connect at all, which looks and feels like a much bigger problem than it actually is. Copy and paste the details directly from wherever your provider sent them rather than retyping them by hand character by character, and double-check for a stray space at the start or end, which is invisible on screen but breaks the connection just the same as a wrong character.

Don't judge success by the first channel you happen to click on, since one working channel doesn't confirm the rest of the list loaded. Check that the electronic program guide, meaning the on-screen schedule of what's currently airing, populates with real show names rather than blank rows, and test one channel from three different groups rather than just the single one that loaded first. If a channel stalls during that test, switch away and back to it; recovery on switch-back means the session itself stalled rather than your bandwidth being the actual problem behind the freeze you saw.
