It usually comes in one of two formats: Xtream Codes, which is a server address plus a separate username and password, or M3U, a single link that bundles the whole playlist into one URL you paste in. Either way, it's issued by your service after signup — the app doesn't generate it, and it isn't something you build yourself. Enter it once inside your player, and the app stores it until you sign out or reinstall.

Your service sends it after you subscribe, typically inside a welcome email or a member portal — for IP4KTV, activation takes about 5 minutes after purchase. Look for a server address, a username, and a password if it's Xtream Codes format, or a single long link if it's M3U. Copy these exactly; a trailing space or a missing character is the single most common reason a player app rejects a login that's actually correct. If you can't find it right away, check your spam folder or the account portal directly rather than requesting a new one, since reissuing a login can disconnect any device already using it.

M3U is a plain text playlist format — one link, and the whole channel list loads from it. Xtream Codes is a login system: a server address plus username and password, which lets the player also pull a proper EPG and organize channels into groups more reliably. Most modern player apps, including TiviMate and IPTV Smarters, support both. If your app gives you a choice, Xtream Codes format usually behaves better with large channel lists and guide data. Neither format is inherently better for basic playback; the choice mostly comes down to which one your app's setup screen asks for first.

Start by checking for typos — a copied space at the beginning or end of the link is invisible but breaks the connection. If the login is correct and it still fails, restart the app, then the device; a stale session causes more login failures than people expect. If only certain channel groups fail to load while others work, the issue is scoped to that content, not your credentials. A player URL that worked yesterday and fails today, with nothing changed on your end, usually points to a service-side issue rather than something wrong with what you entered.

Treat it like a password. Anyone with your Xtream Codes login or M3U link can stream on it, which counts against your plan's simultaneous-connection limit and can lock you out if it's used elsewhere at the same time. Don't post it in forums or share it outside your own household. If you think it's been shared, contact your service to have it reissued. This matters more than people expect, since a shared link doesn't just cost you a connection slot — it can also cause both of you to get logged out mid-show if the limit is hit at once. Keep it as private as you'd keep any streaming password.
