How fast does your connection really need to be?

A genuine 4K stream pulls a sustained 15-25 Mbps; 1080p needs 5-8. The word doing the work is sustained — a speed test that peaks at 300 Mbps for five seconds says nothing about holding 20 Mbps for a three-hour game. Run the test on the streaming device itself, at the TV, in the evening. A phone next to the router will report your plan; the Firestick behind the TV cabinet two rooms away reports your reality, and the gap between those two numbers is where most buffering complaints are born. If the device cannot hold the floor of that range at peak hours, fix that before the trial starts, or the trial will grade your network instead of the service.

Is your Wi-Fi the weak link, and how do you find out?

Wire the device with an Ethernet cable for one evening if you possibly can — that removes the question entirely. If you must stay wireless, use the 5 GHz band and put the router in sight of the device; every wall costs speed.
