What actually happens when you press replay?
Nothing on your device records. The channel is captured on the provider's servers as it airs and kept as segments for a set number of days. When you scroll back in the guide and press play, your player does arithmetic: it reads the program's start time and duration from the EPG, builds a timestamped request and asks the server for that window. Panels expect different shapes for that request. Some want a UTC timestamp appended to the live address, some hand back a fresh address from an API call, and the playlist is what tells the player which to use. If the guide entry has no precise start time, the player has nothing to calculate from and the replay quietly fails.

Why does IPTV catch up work on some channels and not others?
Replay is enabled per channel, and in practice per channel group, because the archive is created upstream of the service you buy from. A group ingested from a source with an archive gets replay; a group ingested without one does not, and no setting on your end changes that. What will replay never do for you?
It is a rolling window, not a personal library. Once a program falls out of the window it is gone and there is no way to pin it. You cannot keep a copy on the device, you cannot pass it to anyone, and archive access ends when a subscription ends, because the recording lived on a server and was never yours. Some titles carry upstream restrictions and stay excluded even inside the window. Treat replay as a second chance at last night's programming rather than storage.
